Learning About Loreto
The connection between Ventura and Loreto extends beyond our involvement in the Sister City Program.
We also have a Sister Island status with the Channel Islands and islands that are off the coast of Loreto. The five islands of Loreto include Danzante, Isla del Carmen, Isla Coronado, Monserrate, and Santa Catalan. Collectively, they’re known as the Coronado Islands and boast Mexico’s largest marine preserve where dolphins, seals, turtles, fish, and sea lions all thrive in its crystal-clear multi-hued waters. There are many good articile about these Islands including The Islands of Loreto: Mexico’s Pueblo Magico Paradise (GoNomad)
Our Sister City relationship with Loreto is focusing on Eco-Tourism and the arts. We are working with Eco Elianza in Loreto to support Eco Tourism and the environment in both our communities.
The Gulf of California is a marine wonderland. Washed by crystal blue waters and dotted with arid islands large and small, it teems with whales, sea turtles, manta rays, and other animals that thrive in this spectacular meeting of desert and sea.
